The best ballet flats for walking, working, and everything in between

They slip on in seconds. They go with literally everything. Ballet flats (or ballerinas, depending on what you call them) are always having a moment. Soft, flexible, and forever easy to wear, these styles handle long commutes and last-minute plans without missing a step. And while trends might swing between platforms and stilettos, the ballet flat holds its ground—always ready, always relevant, always en pointe.

The history of the ballet flat

Long before they became the unofficial shoe of every It-girl, ballet flats were made for, well, for actual ballet. For decades, ballet was performed in heels—until dancers began shifting toward flatter shoes that allowed for more expressive footwork and greater freedom of movement. Inspired by these classic dance slippers, the modern ballerina took off in the mid-20th century thanks to stars of the silver screen. And they’ve been on our feet ever since.

The appeal of the ballet flat is obvious: minimal design, maximum comfort. In other words, shoes that are flat-out great.

Fast forward to now, and the ballerina is less about achieving the perfect pirouettes, but you can pretend. And now they come in a range of different shapes and styles: square-toed, round-toed, strappy, sporty, soft and simple, or high-tech and chunky—we’re into all of them.

Ballet flats for every mood and moment

Ballerinas have been part of the Camper lineup since 2005. Whether you’re into a classic round toe, something sportier, or a Mary Jane, there’s a version that fits you and your feet.

Some come in flexible certified leather. Others in breathable TENCEL™ Lyocell or soft nubuck that wears in just right. The color palette moves from go-with-everything neutrals to dusty pastels and bold tones that do all the talking. These are the pairs you throw on for slow weekends, gallery wanderings, long days on your feet, or unplanned nights out. Some feel like slippers. Some edge into sneaker territory. All of them walk the line between effortless and interesting.

Let’s break it down.

The classic ballet flat (but better)

Launched in 2005, Right was our first take on a ballerina—mixing the flexibility of a dance slipper with the grip and durability of a shoe for the streets rather than the dance studio. The result? Soft, unstructured comfort that’s ready for real life.

It landed right as ballet flats were having a major moment—paired with low-rise jeans, oversized belts, and a lot of smudged eyeliner. And while the trends around it shifted and came right back around, Right was there through it all. With soft uppers, a slim rubber outsole, and that signature elastic strap, our very first ballerina was developed for longevity from the start.

Since then, our Right has expanded, with sandal-hybrid designs that live for warmer weather as well as variations on the classic ballet flat silhouette. Extra durable, flexible, and easy-fit, some styles have hook-and-loop fastenings, and others feature glove-like leather uppers or sportier elastic straps.

The everyday minimalist

Soft and slightly more structured, Casi Myra is our take on timeless. Inspired by traditional ballet flats but upgraded with better ingredients and technologies (think certified leather and OrthoLite® footbeds), it’s a classic that doesn’t try too hard and goes with everything.

Need a shoe for your 9–5 and 5–9? This is it. Casi Myra is also one of our most flexible designs—literally. Super soft materials plus a lightly padded insole mean your feet will be into them from the first step.

The contemporary one

Inspired by inflatables and organic forms, Onda is what happens when you take the idea of a ballerina and run wild with it. Chunky yet lightweight, playful yet practical, Onda brings a little art school energy to your footwear lineup.

With puffed-up curves and an almost futuristic silhouette, this style doesn’t play it safe—and that’s kind of the point. Made from soft leather or sporty textiles, Onda is a different take on the everyday flat.

The Mary Jane

Strappy, structured, and slightly nostalgic, the Mary Jane is another silhouette that’s always redefining itself. Once reserved for school uniforms, today’s versions are sharper, softer, or somewhere in between. Think curved lines, bold proportions, and straps that feel more directional than dainty. At Camper, the look comes in multiple moods:  chunky and platform (BCN), minimalist and rounded (Katie), or elevated with a sculptural sole (Milah). All of them feel very now, and you’ll want to wear them forever.

From ballet flats to ballet sneakers

The ballet flat is a shapeshifter—what started as a soft, stage-inspired slip-on has gone from a minimalist staple to something altogether more engineered. Now, it’s entered a new era: the ballet sneaker. Delicate meets durable. Flexibility meets function.

This revival has shifted delicate to dynamic, with designers reworking the classic flat into something more sporty and sculptural. It’s the next evolution of the silhouette: the softness of a ballerina with the build of a sneaker, with or without laces. Equal parts nostalgic and functional, they’re showing up in your feed, editorials, and low-key everyday looks.

We’ve seen them on editors, creatives, and sneakerheads alike. And honestly? We get it. They’re the shoe equivalent of dressing smart-casual with a streak of IYKYK—combining the easy-wear flexibility of a flat with the cushioned, technical sole of a sneaker. Think low profile, big impact. They look great with or without socks and transition effortlessly between seasons. Bonus points if they’re paired with your least-effort outfit for day, night, and especially when you need to notch up some serious steps. Think running around town, think holidays, think festivals.

Enter Karst 2. Inspired by natural forms and built with tech-first materials, this hybrid takes the ergonomic curves of the original Karst and upgrades them with serious sole power: ReXarge foam for all-day energy return, Vibram® Ecostep outsoles with 30% recycled rubber, and a supercritical midsole foam that feels like a soft bounce underfoot.

Available as both a sneaker and a ballerina-style hybrid, Karst 2 is all about movement. Lightweight, cushioned, and quietly futuristic, it’s the kind of shoe you forget you’re wearing—until someone stops you to ask what they are.

For the mini prima ballerinas

Our ballerinas aren’t just for grown-ups. Many of our styles, like our Right, feature in the Kids’ collection too, so you and your mini-me can match (if you're into that kind of thing). Designed with the same attention to comfort, flexibility, and everyday durability, these are flats built for play, school, dress-up, or downtime. Just in smaller sizes.

There are hook-and-loop fastenings for easy on-and-off, soft uppers that move with little feet, and lightweight soles that won’t slow them down. And because function doesn’t mean boring, you’ll also find playful color-blocking, bright pops of color, and a few surprise details—like our TWINS, where each shoe in the pair is slightly different. A stripe here, a contrast toe there. It’s a detail kids love, and let’s be honest—so will you.

Ballet flats your way

The beauty of a good ballerina flat is that you can wear it anywhere, however you like. Tights, no tights. Bare ankles or chunky socks. Summer strolls or winter layers.

They’re the kind of shoe that works with oversized everything or second-skin silhouettes. Think slouchy denim, boxy blazers, or a mini skirt with socks that don’t try too hard. Go tonal and minimal, or mix textures—matte leather with sheer tights, ribbed socks with soft suede, or skip the socks altogether and let the shoes do the talking.

The best part? Ballerinas don’t care what the forecast says. They work year-round, with whatever you’re wearing, and however you want to wear them.

Ready to step in?

Whether you’re into clean lines, bold shapes, or something that doesn’t fit into a box, there’s a ballet flat that fits. Soft, grounded, and genuinely easy to wear, they’ve outlasted trend cycles for a reason.

Some are stripped back. Others come with subtle tech under the surface. But they all have one thing in common: they’re built for real life, not just the mood board. Morning to night. On or off the radar.

Slip them on. See where they take you.
