The Walking Society
Markets have always been central to Mediterranean life. And the island of Krk is no different. David has run the market here since 2018, bringing together the farmers who live on the island and nearby. This is just one of the projects he manages with his NGO, Progres Krk, which aims to revive long-lost traditions while promoting sustainable agriculture, organic production, and respect for the land and the people who farm it.
David also has an olive grove that he inherited from his grandmother. He harvests table olives and oil just a few kilometers from the market. Like markets, olives are a real symbol of the Mediterranean: hardy trees with a resilient spirit.
Krk is home to four indigenous varieties of olives, including the Plominka olive, David's favorite, which produces a sweeter oil.
