Our interview takes place within the white walls of the Erwin Broner-designed Estudio Tur Costa on Eivissa. This art gallery seems appropriate because, like the German-American architect who moved here in 1959, Sergio Sancho is bringing his creativity to the Balearic island—in the form of Contemporary Art Now, the art fair in its second edition.
As its name suggests, CAN Art Fair showcases everything that is happening "now" in the art world, but ca'n also means "house of" in Catalan, the local language in Eivissa, which Sergio first visited at 25. Seven years ago, he launched the acclaimed UVNT Art Fair in his home city of Madrid, which exhibits emerging artists and the big names in contemporary art.

Splitting his time between the Spanish capital and Eivissa, Sergio is drawn to the slower pace of the Mediterranean island, where he has the time and freedom to stop and reflect. He credits the beauty and tranquility as two of its main attractions, but the relaxing, fun vibe also resonates. Now Sergio wants to synthesize the island's traditional spirit with the avant-garde, just like the architect who designed the building where we meet.
