Buzzo Spinelli
Meet the architects who have reconnected old Corsica with the sea.
The Walking Society
Architects Isabelle Buzzo and Jean-Philippe Spinelli founded Buzzo Spinelli Studio in 2014. Hailing from Corsica, the couple now divides their time between the island and Paris, where they lead very different projects and lives.
Together they have worked on a wide range of projects in Corsica, including a major renovation of the old citadel of Bastia. In collaboration with Dietmar Feichtinger Architectes, they have connected the fortification and the sea via a promenade named Aldilonda, meaning "above the sea" in Corsican.
Anchored in the rock that forms the enclosing wall of the fortress, the pedestrian walkway curves around the rocky coastline five metres above sea level. Blending into the rock, this promenade is representative of the duo's projects that respect Corsica's land and seascape by employing natural materials native to the island.
