Explore Corsica's Natural Park, a safe haven for the island's wildlife
The Walking Society
As the most mountainous island in the Mediterranean, it is no surprise that the Regional Natural Park of Corsica is home to towering terrain and gravity-defying peaks, some over 2000 meters high.
Considered Corsica's finest lookout point and one of the island's toughest hikes, Monte Ritondu stands at over 2600 metres tall, the second-highest mountain after Monte Cinto. On the steep climb to the summit, the glacial lakes that glitter in the sunlight are an unexpected addition to the jagged landscape at these vertiginous heights.
At lower altitudes, the Park is dotted with woodland where diverse fauna and flora coexist. Endangered species of birds are protected here and can be seen circling the skies above the Park.
