Responsible for choosing the quickest possible route for the boat whilst racing, they must take into account weather systems, sea state, and tactics on the racecourse. All the teams receive weather data from the Race HQ at the same time, they are not allowed to consult any other sources for additional weather information during racing, but they can work with a weather team while onshore to plan for the next leg.
